What is your changeover day?Our changeover days are usually Monday and Friday, but if you want your holiday to begin on a different day we will try to accomodate you. Please email us to check availability.

Can I bring my dog?A maximum of two well behaved dogs are welcome at the cottage. Please be aware that dogs are not allowed upstairs (we put a stair gate in place when dogs are staying) or on the furniture. There is a small £20 charge, for each dog that stays, which is payable during the online booking process.

When can we check in/check out?You are welcome from 4pm. Checkout time is 10.00am.

Is there parking at East View Cottage?There is no parking allocated to East View, however, it is usually possible to park alongside the cottage but be aware not to double park on the road here. If the space alongside the cottage is taken it is always possible to unload your car by pulling up the lane in front of the cottage and parking a little further down the road towards the village or in the cul-de-sac called Little Edge, about 100m away from the cottage.

How long does it take to walk into the Village?It takes about ten minutes to walk to The Square in Eyam where you will find three café’s and The Miners Arms pub.

Where are the closest places to eat?Food is served in the Café’s up until about 3.30pm and in The Miners Arms from 12pm to 1.45pm and from 6pm up to about 8pm depending on the day but check their web sites for details. There is also The Barrel Inn at Breton and The Bull at Foolow which are short drives away or within walking distances for lunchtime food as the return walks would not be for the faint hearted in the dark! One Bistro that opened in 2023 is The Cupola Bar and grill located on the road between Stoney Middleton and Eyam but provides a great destination for morning coffee, lunch or early dinner. It makes a lovely walk through Eyam, across fields into Stoney and the return walk is equally stunning via a path following the heritage trail back to The Dale and Eyam village.

Where are the closest shops?Eyam has two village shops and there is a well stocked Spar in Calver. For larger stores there is Bakewell about 20 minutes away with a greater choice of shops and an M&S at Chesterfield, about 35 minutes away and of course the city of Sheffield about 45 minutes away by car.

Where can I buy logs?There is usually a small supply of logs in the log box outside the front door of East View that are available to buy, the price is in the cottage welcome notes. For more logs or kindling the garage and shop in Calver have these for sale, as does the shop in Eyam on most occasions.

What is the bus service like?Very regular services from Eyam Village Square.

Can you catch a bus to Bakewell and Chatsworth?Regular bus services run to Sheffield, Bakewell and Buxton, stopping at many of the villages such as Grindleford, Tideswell and Hathersage. There are also services from Eyam to Chatsworth that takes about 45 minutes.

Are there good cycling and walking routes from the front door of East View?Yes, there are some excellent walking routes in pretty much any direction from East View. Straight out the front door turn left up the lane heading north onto Eyam Moor and then across to Hathersage or head west towards Bretton and Great Hucklow where you will find The Queen Anne Inn and Eyam Brewery. Alternatively you can head south from Eyam towards Stoney Middleton, then up a climb towards Hassop, Chatsworth and Bakewell. Or there is east towards Grindleford, Padley, The Longshaw Estate, Froggatt Edge and Curbar Edge. Depending on how far and how hard there are walks of varying degrees in every direction. As with the walking routes, mountain and gravel bike routes track out in similar directions with more adventurous circular rides extending to Castleton, Mam Tor and Winnats pass. Please follow the links on the East View website that show details and navigation information for many of these walks and rides we have completed over recent years.

Where can you hire bicycles?There is a cycle hire centre at Hassop Station and Blackwell Mill.

Are there any café’s on the Monsal Trail walking/cycling route.Yes there are a number of on trail café stops as well as stops at Hassop Station with picnic area, a number of excellent café’s, pubs and restaurants in Bakewell, The Quackers Café, garden centre and play area at Thornbridge Hall, along with brewery, the Monsal Head Hotel and Bar just off the main trail, The Anglers Rest but requires some determination to drop down and cycle along the road to rejoin the Monsal Trail again, and the Millers Dale Refreshment Café before reaching the end of the trail at Blackwell Mill Cycle Hire.

Is there a sound system at East View Cottage?Yes, there is a small sound system at the cottage that has inputs for radio, CD and AUX. The AUX input has been connected to an Esinkin BT Bluetooth adapter/receiver. You should be able to connect your phone or laptop by scanning and connecting to this adapter and checking the sound system is set to auxiliary input to play your favourite playlists.

Can I adjust the heating?The gas fired central heating is controlled via a Google Nest Home smart thermostat that is located in the lounge. This thermostat is preset for temperature and times and has presets for temperatures when it senses people are at home or away. However, the outer bezel of the thermostat can be turned to increase or decrease the thermostat setting to change the temperature at which the heating turns on and off.

How do I access Netflix?There are two remote controls for the TV. One remote controls the LG television and the second remote controls the Firestick through which we access Netflix. Firstly the TV input needs to be changed to HDMI and then press the “NETFLIX” button on the small firestick remote before navigating the Netflix channels. To return to standard TV use the TV remote and change the input mode to “Antenna” and then use this remote to navigate the normal television channels.
